Storm Threatens to Ruin 2nd Bid to Launch Shuttle
Associated Press
KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — Hurricane Opal threatens to ruin NASA’s second attempt to send space shuttle Columbia on a long science mission.
NASA’s forecasters expect only a 30% chance of favorable conditions for the 6:40 a.m. PDT Thursday launch because of rain and clouds from the hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.
The second countdown began Monday.
