Woodbridge Is Blanked Again; Saugus Keeps Warriors Winless
IRVINE — Senior fullback Jeremy Mushinski scored three touchdowns to lead Saugus to a 27-0 victory over Woodbridge Thursday night at Irvine High.
Mushinski rushed for 126 yards in 22 carries for Saugus (2-3).
Woodbridge (0-4-1) was shut out for the fourth time this season.
Junior quarterback Brian Millat, who sat out the first four games with a stress fracture in his right foot, made his first start of the season for the Warriors.
Millat struggled, completing five of 23 passes for 46 yards.
Woodbridge also fumbled the ball away three times.
The Warriors’ most serious scoring threat came in the first quarter, when they advanced the ball to the Saugus 29. But the drive stalled and Mark Kerns missed a 43-yard field goal attempt.
Saugus took over and drove the ball 80 yards for a score. A one-yard touchdown run by Mushinski gave Saugus a 6-0 lead with 4 minutes 7 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Mushinski scored again on a one-yard touchdown run with 3:54 left in the half to put Saugus ahead, 13-0.
Saugus increased the lead to 20-0 on a one-yard touchdown run by Mushinski with 1:08 remaining in the third quarter.
