ROUNDUP : Chatsworth Extends Volleyball Streak to 11 After Sweeping Cleveland
Jennifer Joseph had 10 kills and Tynitra Wilson added seven kills and four blocks as visiting Chatsworth High rolled to a 15-2, 15-2, 15-6 victory over Cleveland in a Northwest Valley Conference match Thursday.
Pamela George recorded 31 assists for the Chancellors (12-1, 3-0 in conference play), who have won 11 consecutive matches.
In other girls’ volleyball matches:
North Hollywood d. Canoga Park, 10-15, 13-15, 15-6, 15-5, 15-7--The Huskies recorded 16 aces to rebound from a two-game deficit in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Canoga Park.
Samantha Fargeon led North Hollywood (4-2, 3-0) with 14 kills, and Gohar Karapogosyan added 12 kills. Takui Karapogosyan had 27 assists.
Kennedy d. El Camino Real, 15-6, 15-4, 15-2--Stephanie Ong had 18 assists and Melissa Kuhn had seven kills as the host Golden Cougars (4-2, 2-1) swept El Camino Real in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
Sylmar d. Reseda, 15-8, 15-10, 10-15, 15-12--Anne Guevarra had 14 kills and nine digs, and Sandra Smiley had 35 assists and seven aces for visiting Sylmar (5-0, 3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.
Van Nuys d. Poly, 10-15, 15-8, 12-15, 15-12, 15-6--Jasmeen Burton had 12 kills and Keri Otake had seven aces to lead host Van Nuys (3-3, 2-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match. Latoya Seeley paced Poly (4-2, 2-1) with 14 kills, and Marlena McLurkin added 10 kills.
Simi Valley d. Camarillo, 15-7, 15-8, 15-8--Michelle Capauno had nine kills and Jensa Metcalf added 10 assists and two aces for the host Pioneers (4-4, 3-3) in a Marmonte League match.
Tana Peraza had 14 assists and Kasey Jungwirth added six kills for the Scorpions (4-4, 2-4).
Royal d. Newbury Park, 15-0, 15-8, 15-7--Carrie Swartz had 12 kills and Heidi Ferguson added 33 assists for visiting Royal (7-1, 6-0) in a Marmonte League match.
Royal’s LaKesha DeBerry added 11 kills, and Niki Guerra had nine kills.
Thousand Oaks d. Agoura, 15-7, 16-14, 15-13--Jenn Detmer had 12 kills, eight blocks and four aces for visiting Thousand Oaks (5-1, 5-1) in a Marmonte League match.
Saugus d. Hart, 16-14, 15-10, 15-8--Erika Lilley had 32 assists for the visiting Centurions (5-1, 2-0) in a Foothill League match.
Lauren McCartin had nine kills for Saugus, and Jennifer Phillips added eight,
BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Thousand Oaks 17, Royal 42; Thousand Oaks 15, Simi Valley 48; Simi Valley 28, Royal 29--Josh Carolan, Todd Disney and Eric Stoutenberg swept the first three places for Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League opener at Cal Lutheran.
Carolan timed 16 minutes 58 seconds over the three-mile course, followed by Disney (16:59) and Stoutenberg (17:40). Jason Lu finished fifth in 17:49 for Thousand Oaks (2-0, 2-0), which has won 23 consecutive league matches since 1992.
GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Thousand Oaks 15, Royal 44; Thousand Oaks 20, Simi Valley 39; Simi Valley 28, Royal 28--Natalie Shaw of Simi Valley placed first, but Thousand Oaks’ superior depth prevailed in a Marmonte League opener at Cal Lutheran.
Shaw timed 21:03 over the three-mile course, but the defending league champion Lancers (2-0, 2-0) swept the next four spots. Tara Marsden (21:37), Erin Sorensen (21:38) and Katie Scherrei (21:39) placed second, third and fourth for Thousand Oaks, the top-ranked team in Southern Section Division I.
Agoura 24, Westlake 33--Jessica Lepisto of host Agoura posted a 65-second victory in a Marmonte League opener.
Lepisto, a junior, timed 19:26 over the three-mile course as the Chargers (1-0, 1-0) placed five runners among the top eight.
HIGH SCHOOL WATER POLO
Agoura 13, Newbury Park 12--Noah Cirincione scored two of his three goals in the fourth quarter to help visiting Agoura to a come-from-behind victory in a Marmonte League match.
Cirincione’s second goal broke a 10-10 tie and his third gave the Chargers (5-8, 1-0) a 13-11 advantage.
