A repentant Charles Haley made amends Monday. The Dallas defensive end apologized to his coaches for his outburst the day before and backtracked on his vow that this would be his last with the Cowboys.

“I overreacted to the situation,” he said. “I was frustrated. On reflection I just wish I had a cold Coke and got out of there [Texas Stadium]. We can’t have a house divided and I won’t let it happen.”

Haley was steamed because Shante Carver started at defensive end in Sunday’s 34-24 victory over Green Bay. Haley missed practice last week because of a sore back.

“They are going to get all that I got this year and that’s it,” Haley said after the game. “They’ll never get me back in this uniform again.”

But on Monday he said, “We’ll see about next year.”

Haley signed a five-year, $15-million contract with the Cowboys in July.

Offensive tackle Bernard Williams returned to the Philadelphia Eagles following a six-game drug suspension.

Williams, suspended by the NFL July 24 following a positive test for marijuana, likely won’t start Sunday against the New York Giants. In fact, he might not even be activated. Coach Ray Rhodes said he will know more about Williams’ status later in the week.
