Make Their Day

Green Day has thrashed its way back to the top, debuting at No. 2 on The Times’ Southern California Album Chart, one spot higher than Janet Jackson’s greatest-hits collection. The East Bay punk outfit, featuring the energetic Billie Joe Armstrong on lead vocals, is also No.1 on the Hard Rock chart, one-upping Southland favorites the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Alanis Morissette and Hootie & the Blowfish have held on to their consistent slots, but the one to watch is the “Dead Presidents” soundtrack, which is aiming to be the most successful reissue compilation since “Forrest Gump” reigned last year.
