VENTURA : Residents to Celebrate Opening of Park
It was once a run-down vacant lot. But with the sweat and determination of Ventura Avenue area residents and a creative landscape architect, the blighted lot has sprouted a tiny community park.
Today, the Westside Community Council celebrates the opening of the Ventura Avenue Green Plaza with a reception at the Avenue Adult Center, adjacent to the park at 572 N. Ventura Ave.
“We wanted to create a positive attitude in the area, and pride,” said Betty Molina, an event organizer. “The green plaza was a vacant lot full of weeds . . . it is now a nice little park.”
The grand opening of the plaza is being held in conjunction with national Make a Difference Day, a theme aptly describing the community’s volunteer efforts.
The reception, which is open to the public, is from noon to 5:30 p.m. and will include food and entertainment.
