Ford Plans to Appeal $62.4-Million Award: The nation’s No.2 auto maker said it will appeal the jury award to two Indiana women who said their injuries in a 1991 accident were caused by a design fault that makes the Bronco II prone to rolling over. A jury in Indianapolis awarded Pam Ammerman and Lana Cuskaden $29 million each in punitive damages. They also won $4.4 million in compensatory damages. Ford Motor Co. said it was the second time a jury has it liable for injuries allegedly caused by the Bronco II design. Safety advocates allege that the Bronco II has a short wheel base and high center of gravity that makes it prone to rolling over during emergency maneuvers. Ford says the vehicles are safe when driven properly.
