Safety Components International Inc.: The Costa Mesa company, which makes automotive air bags and supplies ordnance and other related defense products, said profit for the second fiscal quarter totaled $1.3 million, or 26 cents a share, compared with $346,000, or 8 cents a share, a year ago. Sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30 more than doubled to $25.3 million from $10.8 million. First-half profit rose to $2.4 million, or 50 cents a share, from $653,000, or 17 cents a share, for the prior-year period. Sales increased to $49 million from $19.5 million.
