In another playoff game: Fullerton 3, Cerritos 0--Katy Gayton had 13 kills and Michelle Halliday added nine as No. 6 Fullerton (14-5) upset No. 3 Cerritos, 15-12, 15-8, 15-6.
Cerritos played without all-State outside hitter Midori Bruel, who sat out because of a dislocated shoulder.
Fullerton plays Chabot in the first round of the State tournament Friday at 8 at Cypress College. Also at Cypress Friday, Kings River and Pasadena play at 6 p.m.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Irvine Valley 99, Desert 27--Jen Nakanishi scored 22 points, including four three-pointers, and Pamela Loud had 18 points and seven rebounds for host Irvine Valley, which forced 47 turnovers.
Irvine Valley, which is in its first season, has won its first six games.
