U.S. Threatens China on Piracy: Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that China’s efforts to stop rampant piracy of American music, films, computer programs and other intellectual property have fallen short of what was called for under an agreement by Beijing and Washington last February. She said a team of U.S. officials will travel to Beijing soon to review efforts to comply with the intellectual property agreement. The United States will review the agreement again in late February and decide whether action is needed to pressure China to comply, she said. Barshefsky said she discussed U.S. concerns about the agreement with Chinese officials during a trip to Beijing earlier this month. She said they were told that China’s efforts to enforce the copyright agreement would reflect on its bid to join the World Trade Organization.
