Johnston Hired to Coach UC Irvine Golf Team

IRVINE —  Jeff Johnston, a former instructor in UC Irvine’s physical education department, will return to the university as the men’s golf coach, Athletic Director Dan Guerrero said Wednesday.

Johnston, 32, also will teach golf in the campus’ recreation program,

where he was assistant director from 1988-94.

Tom Tift, who had been the interim golf coach, will be a volunteer assistant with the program, and Matt Gillis will continue as assistant coach.
