Four-Star Films : ‘Gone With the Wind’
David O. Selznick’s glorious 1939 film of Margaret Mitchell’s fiery Civil War-Reconstruction epic still stands as Hollywood’s greatest popular screen epic. Starring Clark Gable as Rhett Butler and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara (both pictured in the film’s famous embrace). With Leslie Howard as Ashley and Olivia de Havilland as Melanie plus Thomas Mitchell, Hattie McDaniel and Butterfly McQueen, Laura Hope Crews and a cast of thousands. Directed (largely) by Victor Fleming (TNT Tuesday at 5 p.m., concluding Wednesday at 5 p.m.).
