Countywide : 13 Candidates to Run for 2 Supervisor Seats
A crowded field of 13 candidates including an assemblyman and several city council members filed by Wednesday’s deadline to run for two open seats on the Board of Supervisors.
Both races are considered wide open, because neither of the incumbents, Roger R. Stanton and Don Saltarelli, is seeking reelection.
The candidates for Stanton’s seat are Garden Grove Councilman Mark Leyes, Westminster Mayor Charles V. Smith, Fountain Valley Mayor George B. Scott, Gary D. Copeland of Fountain Valley and Robert John Banuelos of Santa Ana.
The candidates for Saltarelli’s job are Assemblyman Mickey Conroy (R-Orange), Lake Forest Councilwoman Helen Wilson, Mission Viejo Councilwoman Susan Withrow, Rancho Santiago Community College District Trustee Charles W. “Pete” Maddox, political activist Bruce Whitaker of Fullerton, Brea Olinda Unified School District Trustee Todd Spitzer, William A. Dougherty of Villa Park and Ron Middlebrook of Santa Ana.
