Studio City : Feuer to Hold Forum on Creating Mini-Park
City Councilman Mike Feuer plans to meet with Studio City residents and business leaders Thursday to discuss the establishment of a mini-park next to the Studio City Branch Library.
Feuer and officials from the city Recreation and Parks Department and the Los Angeles Public Library will be on hand to discuss the possibility of using a city-owned lot next to the library as a mini-park until a new, expanded library can be built.
The gravel, 19,000-square-foot lot, which is enclosed by a chain-link fence, is the source of some blight in the community, said Howard Gantman, a Feuer spokesman.
Residents often complain about the lot, he said, and now “we have the opportunity to green it and put some trees in it if that’s what the community wants.”
The city bought the property from Studio City resident Antonio Dell’Acqua in September 1994, with the idea of doubling the size of the library from its current 5,230 square feet, Gantman said. But funds are not immediately available for the expansion, and the city is considering establishing a mini-park on the unused land until library funds can be found, he said.
If the proposal is approved, up to $150,000 will be available from park improvement funds.
The forum, scheduled for 7 p.m., will be held at the library at 4400 Babcock Ave.
