ALBUM REVIEWS : ** Kenny Wayne Shepherd, “Ledbetter Heights,” Giant.
The spirit of Stevie Ray Vaughan certainly haunts this 18-year-old guitarist’s playing, but Shepherd is no one-trick pony. In “Deja Voodoo,” the Shreveport native deftly pays scorching, fluid tribute to both Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix; his twangy, out-back take on Bukka White’s “Aberdeen” proves he isn’t just a rockin’ city boy, and the solo work he weaves through the instrumental tracks is as evocative as any lyric. Shepherd plays the Troubadour on Thursday and Dragonfly next Saturday.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
