World IN BRIEF : SOUTH KOREA : Daewoo Chief Denies Bribery Charges

The chairman of South Korea’s giant Daewoo Group denied bribery charges in a court appearance but admitted giving the equivalent of $63,300 to a former senior government official. Daewoo Chairman Kim Woo Choong was indicted last month on charges of giving money to former President Roh Tae Woo’s chief aide for security and foreign affairs in return for business favors. Kim is already on trial on separate charges of offering bribes to Roh.
