Virgin, an average wrestler last season, is showing signs of dominance. “He seems stronger than his opponents,” Coach Mark Calentino said, “and much more aggressive.” In his last 13 matches, Virgin has pinned 12, accidentally breaking the arm of the 13th and winning by injury default. Saturday, he won the title at the Laguna Hills Invitational, pinning Rusty Zonis of Manhattan Beach Mira Costa in 5 minutes 17 seconds, after rallying from a 6-0 deficit.

* Cypress, senior. Scored 25 points in a 70-62 victory over Kennedy and 25 in a 53-36 victory over Katella and the Centurions moved alone into first place in the Empire League.
Jerry Inzunza
* Troy, freshman. Scored 27 points, including a jump shot with four seconds left to force overtime in the Warriors’ 64-57 Freeway League victory over Fullerton.
Scott Yoshizaki
* Westminster, senior. Scored 23 points, seven in overtime, to lead the Lions to a 60-53 victory over Ocean View, Westminster’s first boys’ basketball victory over the Seahawks.
Soccer
Albert Mendez
* Santiago, junior. Scored four goals in a 5-1 victory over Garden Grove and four in a 8-0 victory over Bolsa Grande. Has 44 this season, breaking school record of 40 he set last season.
Wrestling

Thanh Nguyen
* Laguna Hills. Dulaney, a senior, won the 171-pound title and Nguyen, a senior, won at 112 to lead the Hawks to the team title of the Laguna Hills tournament.
