Central Los Angeles : Youth Sports Group Gets $604,000 Grant
Kids in Sports of Los Angeles has received $604,000 from the Amateur Athletic Foundation to provide year-round sports programs at 11 sites to more than 5,000 youths in the inner city.
The grant was the largest of 25 handed to Southern California youth sports groups by the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, which disseminates funds from 1984 Olympic profits. In all, $1.18 million was disbursed.
Among other recipients, the U.S. Tennis Association’s National Junior Tennis League got $150,000 for a summer instructional program, the Special Olympics of Southern California received $130,900 for its program serving 800 athletes from central and East Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills received $57,976 to introduce boys and girls to track cycling at velodromes in Carson, Encino and San Diego.
