Mail-Order Shopping Up, Survey Finds: More Americans shopped from catalogs in 1995, a survey found, with the rate among men increasing to 49% from 38% in 1993. Among women, 60% said they used a catalog for holiday shopping in 1995, up from 49% in 1993, according to the poll by New York-based Werthlin Group. J.C. Penney Co.’s catalog was the most popular in the 1995 holiday season, followed by those from Sears, Roebuck & Co.; Spiegel Inc.; and L.L. Bean.
