Long Beach State’s O’Brien Expected to Receive Job Offer
Dave O’Brien, Long Beach State athletic director, is expected to be offered the same job Monday at William & Mary College, sources said Friday night.
The contract O’Brien will likely be offered includes an annual salary of about $120,000. The package might also include use of a university-owned car and other financial perks.
O’Brien, 39, is among the highest paid Big West Conference athletic directors, earning about $100,000. Long Beach President Robert Maxson conceded the university might not have the resources to significantly upgrade O’Brien’s contract.
“There are limitations to what we can do,” Maxson said. “No news is good news as far as I’m concerned right now.”
O’Brien returned Friday morning to Long Beach after interviewing with William & Mary officials in Williamsburg, Va., beginning Saturday. He was the fifth of six candidates to be interviewed.
