Ex-Angel Phillips Takes a Break From White Sox
Chicago White Sox left fielder Tony Phillips left training camp at Sarasota, Fla., and returned to his home in Scottsdale, Ariz., to attend to undisclosed family matters. Phillips, who signed to a two-year, $3.6-million free-agent contract after playing for the Angels last season, is expected to return Monday or Tuesday. . . . The Boston Red Sox voided the contract of pitcher Mike Ignasiak, who failed a physical, and agreed to terms with pitchers Joe Hudson, Jeff Suppan and Rich Betti. . . . Pitcher Carey Paige, a Rule 5 draft pick from the Atlanta organization, was sent home from the Toronto Blue Jays’ training camp because of an injured right shoulder.
