State Recognizes Land Reclamation
The state is recognizing Ventura County’s commitment to ensuring the successful reclamation of mined land.
DeWayne Holmdahl, State Mining and Geology Board chairman, is scheduled to present the Department of Conservation’s Surface Mining and Reclamation Act Lead Agency Award at 9 a.m. today to the Board of Supervisors’ meeting.
The award signifies that the county’s adherence to the act, which ensures land is returned to a usable condition after mining operations cease, is among the best in the state, officials said.
Ventura County has 29 active mining operations.
