Proposition 203 Gets Council’s Support
The Camarillo City Council went on record Wednesday supporting Proposition 203, the $3-billion education bond on next month’s statewide ballot, one day after the Ventura County Board of Supervisors endorsed the measure.
The five-member Camarillo panel unanimously approved a resolution urging voters to approve the proposition.
Members of the City Council said that because some of the money included in the bond would pay for design work on a proposed state university campus in Ventura County, the proposition should be supported. Cal State officials have already purchased 260 acres north of the Ventura Freeway just west of Camarillo as a site for the long-awaited university.
But there is little money available for design or construction of the campus.
A state official said Tuesday that there is no question the campus will be built sometime but that it would happen sooner if voters approve Proposition 203 on March 26.
In a rare show of support for statewide bond measures, the Ventura County Taxpayers Assn. earlier this week also endorsed the measure.
