Central Los Angeles : BIG BASH
Is your birthday June 30?
If so, you’re invited to participate in a birthday performance at the California Plaza in downtown Los Angeles.
The event is sponsored by the Cornerstone Theater Company, a Los Angeles-based community drama ensemble that is celebrating its 10th birthday . . . on June 30.
The performance will feature a play titled “The Birthday of the Century,” written by Shishir Kurup, a member of the company, about a person born in 1901 who lives until 1996, said artistic director Bill Rauch.
“The ‘person’ will shift from different actors, so the person will not only grow older but shift gender and ethnicity,” Rauch said.
Cornerstone decided to invite people with June 30 birthdays because “it’s a way for us to build a company that cuts across all the usual barriers,” Rauch said.
Participants can perform in the play as actors or musicians, build sets, design costumes or simply come watch the play, Rauch said.
Two other projects in conjunction with the play are in the works, including a mural and a sound collage, Rauch said. Material for both of these projects will be gathered from interviews of people born June 30.
The performance dates are June 26 through June 30, with a birthday party June 29 that culminates at midnight.
To participate, call: (800) 459-1116.
