1996 BOYS’ SWIMMING AND DIVING PREVIEW : SIX TEAMS TO WATCH : LAGUNA HILLS
Coach: Susan Lord (first year).
1995: 7-4, 5-0 in Pacific Coast League; won Southern Section Division II title.
Key returners: Eric Girma, Sr.; Jacob Hsieh, Sr.; Matt Kwok, Jr.; Tyler Maertz, Sr.; Dustin Morrison, Sr.; Danny Nguyen, Sr.; Steve Poling, So.; Delson Ting, Sr.
Key newcomers: Scott Davis, So.; Joe Herriges, Fr.
Outlook: Despite losing Division II swimmer of the meet Mark Kwok and All-American Preston Hammontree, Lord still thinks the team has a good chance to win its second consecutive division title. Lord, who has been coaching Laguna Hills girls for five years, takes over as boys’ head coach, replacing Chris Duncan. Nevertheless, Lord said she still has a good idea of what the boys can do in the water because she has been the assistant boys’ coach for five years. Lord said she thinks Davis and Herriges will be able to help the team, especially Herriges, who swims the butterfly. “We lost two star swimmers, but like the girls’ team, I think the guys can make up for the loss in quality with quantity.”
