The city expects to award a contract Monday for construction of Bob Henry Park, named in memory of the city police officer who died in April after being shot in the line of duty.

Los Angeles Engineering of Rosemead, which has worked on several projects in Orange County, including sidewalks on Newport Beach’s Lido Island, is being recommended by the Public Works Department to receive the $930,155 contract.

The 4-acre park at Dover Drive and 16th Street will feature a tot lot and bleachers for a soccer field that can be converted into two baseball diamonds. The contract also involves building restrooms and storage space, a parking lot and sidewalks.

Public works officials expect the park to be completed by year’s end.

The city plans to install a plaque to commemorate Henry and Officer John Marshall, who died in a 1962 traffic accident at Dover and 16th while on duty.
