CARREYED BACK
Although it completely blows the premise of her article (Film Clips, March 3), you may wish to acquaint Judy Brennan with Robin Williams’ second major film role, the dramatic lead in “The World According to Garp” (1982), and Jim Carrey’s dramatic performance in the 1992 Fox-TV film “Doing Time on Maple Drive.”

As the tortured son, Jim Carrey was one of the highlights of “Doing Time on Maple Drive,” a shocking portrayal of a family in crisis. Even if he decides to take on another serious role, which I truly believe he is capable of, will the audience be expecting a punch line from him every other minute of screen time? Proof of that would be that “Doing Time” has just been re-released on video under a different title, “Faces in the Mirror,” and billed as a comedy.
