City Council Denies Stop Sign Request
Saying there have been no traffic accidents or other safety problems at Sierra Vista Elementary School, the City Council has denied a request for stop signs on Whittier Boulevard at Shelburne Street.
The council was asked to authorize stop signs at the intersection in front of the school to deter motorists who use Whittier Boulevard to bypass traffic on surrounding streets and as a safety measure for schoolchildren.
But city officials said in a report to the council last week there have been no accidents at the Whittier/Shelburne intersection to warrant stop signs and that no safety problems have been reported in years.
In other business, the council denied a request to install a raised median on Idaho Street, south of La Habra Boulevard.
Instead, officials decided to install an additional “right turn only” sign on Idaho to keep motorists from making illegal left turns.
