Norman Perlman; Fought Fascists in Spanish Civil War
Norman Perlman, 86, who fought with the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in Spain. Perlman was a member of the international volunteer group that fought against fascist forces in the Spanish Civil War in 1936. He was wounded by German shrapnel in the fighting and lost a leg. In later years, Perlman served as secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles post of the brigade’s veterans. He also was a longtime volunteer with the Los Angeles County Library and a fund-raiser for medical relief to war-torn Central America. On Thursday in Santa Monica.
