Street Closed by Water Main Break
YORBA LINDA — A break in a large water main sent water flooding over a stretch of Bastanchury Road on Tuesday, prompting police to close the street from Prospect to Imperial Highway, possibly through this morning.
A “significant amount of water” was let loose when the 15-inch water line ruptured just before 5 p.m., and at least one home in a nearby residential area suffered some minor flooding damage, Brea Police Sgt. Bill Vukelich said.
“One resident had a hard flow of water going into his garage . . . and right through to the back door and out,” Vukelich said. The homeowner told police the damage was light, though, with some water-damaged tools and other items.
Yorba Linda Water District workers were trying to cap the leak Tuesday night, and the detour was causing some traffic snarls in the area, Vukelich said. There was no information Tuesday about the cause of the break, police said.
