Kennedy Enters Playoffs as City’s Top-Seeded Team
Kennedy High, the only softball team in the City Section 4-A Division to go undefeated in league play, was rewarded as the top-seeded team in the playoffs, which begin next week.
The Golden Cougars, who finished first in the North Valley League, will receive a bye in the first round, along with second-seeded El Camino Real, third-seeded San Pedro, the defending champion, and fourth-seeded Monroe.
“We earned it,” Kennedy Coach Lee Holden said. “There wasn’t anybody else who could justify being the top seed.”
Monroe, the Mid-Valley League co-champion, won a coin-flip with Reseda to receive the automatic first-round bye for league champions.
The Regents are seeded seventh and will face Chatsworth in the first round, which is tentatively scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Granada Hills, which advanced to the City final last year, is seeded sixth and will host Taft in a first-round game.
On May 9 at Brand Park, Kennedy will face the winner of a first-round game between Banning and Sylmar.
Cleveland is the 12th seeded team and will play at Carson.
