Actor Gives Students Lesson on Hollywood
Actor Elliott Gould, who played a Holocaust survivor in a recent episode of the CBS television show “Touched by an Angel,” answered students’ questions Thursday at a Jewish elementary school about the Holocaust and about being an actor.
About 150 students at the Kadima Hebrew Academy gathered in the school auditorium for the question-and-answer session that lasted about 45 minutes.
“How does it feel to be a Jew and do what you do [acting]?” asked Rena Dinin, a seventh-grader. Gould, who said he speaks to student groups whenever he has the chance, responded that he felt a heightened responsibility as an actor representing the Jewish community.
The fifth-, sixth- and seventh-graders are currently studying the Holocaust, which several asked questions about. Some also asked about Gould’s experience during World War II.
But most asked Gould about being a famous actor.
The actor promised to return sometime to play basketball with the youngsters in their schoolyard. “Cool,” said one boy.
