Swimmer Feared Drowned in Ocean
An unidentified swimmer disappeared Sunday in the waters near the Los Angeles County line and was feared drowned.
Divers and rescue crews from the Ventura County fire and sheriff’s departments as well as Los Angeles County lifeguards failed to locate the man, who was last seen in the water around 4:50 p.m., according to the Fire Department.
The search was called off at nightfall and is set to resume this morning.
Around 5 p.m. the Fire Department received a call saying witnesses had seen a swimmer waving his arms in distress before they lost sight of him.
A Sheriff’s Department helicopter was dispatched to help search the area just south of the intersection of the Pacific Coast Highway and Yerba Buena Road. But after more than two hours, rescue crews had found no sign of the swimmer.
