Gala Benefit Screening of Pickford’s ‘Best Girl’
A gala screening of 1927’s “My Best Girl,” starring Mary Pickford and Charles “Buddy” Rogers, and a new 22-minute documentary on Rogers, “Anytime’s the Time to Fall in Love” will be held tonight at the Silent Movie, 611 N. Fairfax Ave., to benefit the Screen Smart Set, an auxiliary of the Motion Picture and Television Fund.
Along with a buffet dinner in the theater’s patio at 6 p.m. and dessert and coffee after the screenings, there will be a red carpet, Klieg lights and live music.
Rogers, who went on to become Pickford’s husband after “My Best Girl,” is slated to attend.
The Screen Smart Set supports the Cinema Glamour Shop at 343 N. La Brea Ave., launched by Pickford as the Screen Star Thrift Shop in 1930 when she was president of the Motion Picture Fund.
