Irish step-dancing competitions, live music by the Fenians and an exhibition game of hurling, a national sport of Ireland, will be among highlights of the annual Brothers of St. Patrick Fiesta and Feis on Saturday and Sunday. On tap for the kids: clowns, games and face painting. It all takes place at the brothers’ Novitiate House in Midway City. Food isn’t necessarily Irish: A spaghetti dinner will be served both days.

Comedy

Unlike most stand-up comics, who like to score high on the punch-lines-per-minute meter, Jake Johannsen prefers to take his time, weaving tall tales with plenty of offbeat (and intelligent) observations. His favorite topics include relationships, man-versus-machine (especially toasters) and the extraterrestrials among us. A motorcycle-riding native of Iowa City, he has appeared several times on the “Late Show With David Letterman” and “The Tonight Show.”

Dance

Angelika Nemeth and her dancers present a “Magical Evening of Danse Orientale,” featuring Gypsy, Kuwaiti, Cuban, Egyptian and Indian styles of dance and song and elaborate costumes, Saturday and Sunday at Orange Coast College’s Robert B. Moore Theatre in Costa Mesa. According to Nemeth, an OCC instructor, belly dancing and flamenco are just the start.

Family Affair

Playing in the street is fun but rarely is it culturally enriching. It promises to be both on Saturday at the fourth annual Anaheim Children’s Festival, a free visual and performing arts celebration along a three-block stretch of West Harbor Place (which will be closed to cars from Clementine Street to Anaheim Boulevard). There’ll be dozens of booths offering international craft activities and displays, a children’s art exhibit, plus two stages with storytelling, music, juggling and dance, among other performances, and free admission and activities at the adjacent Anaheim Museum. At 7:30 p.m., there’ll be a low-priced performance of “Annie” at nearby Pearson Park.
