Stanford 10, Cal State Northridge 5--The second-seeded Cardinal advanced with little trouble against the fifth-seeded Matadors at Palo Alto.
Mississippi State 6, UC Santa Barbara 2--David Hayman hit a two-run homer during a four-run eighth inning for the Bulldogs (38-22), whose Eric DuBose scattered nine hits in a victory over the Gauchos (32-19) at Palo Alto.
Florida State 16, Northeast Illinois 0--Jeremy Morris hit two home runs and drove in five runs for the Seminoles (48-15) in a rout of the Golden Eagles (31-28).
OTHER REGIONALS
South II--Doubles by Jason Fitzgerald, Mike Pursell and Michael Johns in the seventh inning drove in four runs for Tulane (43-18) in a 10-7 win over Nevada Las Vegas (43-16) at Baton Rouge, La. Also, New Orleans was a 13-3 winner over Georgia Tech (37-23), top-seeded Louisiana State (45-15) a 9-3 winner over Austin Peay (44-21).
Atlantic--Mike Riley scattered 10 hits for West Virginia (32-23), which beat Tennessee, 8-4, at Clemson, S.C. Also, Julio Ayala struck out 10 for Georgia Southern (46-12) in a 6-0 win over Old Dominion (39-16); Kris Benson pitched a one-hitter for Clemson (46-15) in a 9-1 victory over Charleston Southern (30-23-1).
East--Bill Cooke was solid in five-plus innings of relief for Massachusetts (38-11) in an 8-7 victory over Central Florida (42-20) at Gainesville, Fla. Also, South Florida (46-7) was a 12-3 winner over North Carolina State (42-18) and top-seeded Florida (45-13) a 7-0 winner over Bucknell (24-22).
Midwest--Will Ford had four hits and drove in five runs for Rice (40-21), which routed Missouri (39-18), 17-4 at Wichita, Kan. Wichita State (51-9) was a 4-0 winner over Indiana (42-17).
South I--George Restovich had four hits for Notre Dame (44-16) in a 12-1 victory over Virginia (41-20) at Tuscaloosa, Ala. Stetson (31-21) was a 9-0 winner over South Alabama (42-16); Alabama (46-17) routed Princeton (26-20), 19-2.
College Notes
Cal State Northridge catcher Robert Fick and Fullerton outfielder Mark Kotsay were among 16 players named to the Division I All-American team, chosen by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
