. . . Orange Coast College freshman baseball player Joey James won the Big Stick Award, given to the most powerful hitter in the state.

The Newport Harbor High School graduate, voted Southern California Player of the Year, set state records with 19 home runs, 80 runs batted in and a .443 batting average.
