Tolton Takes Centennial to Title
Corona Centennial senior Jennifer Tolton retired the final 13 batters she faced and had the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Centennial a 4-3 victory over Cerritos on Friday in the Southern Section Division IV softball final before 2,000 at Mayfair Park.
Tolton’s single to center field with two outs scored Nicole Miller from second base with the winning run.
Because of heavy freeway traffic, the Huskies (25-4) did not arrive at Mayfair Field until 20 minutes before game time.
The lack of preparation time affected Tolton (23-3), who gave up five hits and three runs in the first three innings after throwing four consecutive playoff shutouts.
But Tolton allowed Cerritos (25-9) only three hits in the final seven innings.
After being held hitless through five innings by Erin Hawley (14-4), the Huskies overcame a two-run deficit with singles by Stephanie Tolton and Nicole Milsap to tie it at 3-3 in the sixth.
