Fick Makes Consensus All-American
A day after being named to Baseball America magazine’s All-American team, catcher Robert Fick of Cal State Northridge became a consensus All-American Friday when he was named to the Smith Award Super Team, selected by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assn.
Northridge shortstop Adam Kennedy and left-handed pitcher Erasmo Ramirez were third-team choices on the Super Team, while third baseman Eric Gillespie and right-handed pitcher Robert Crabtree received honorable mention.
Football
Senior Steve Standifer, a two-year starter at safety for Colorado State, has transferred to Cal State Northridge along with sophomore Jeramie Thomas, a wide receiver from Colorado State, and junior Jerome Henry, a receiver from Iowa State.
Basketball
Chatsworth guard Jerome Joseph, a member of The Times’ All-Valley team, has signed with The Master’s College.
Volleyball
Sylmar High setter Art Salcedo has been selected co-player of year in the City 3-A Division.
Sylmar outside hitter Kevin Dawes and Van Nuys middle blocker Eugene Kwong were selected to the 3-A All-City team.
Gymnastics
Grant High won the City gymnastics title Thursday at Venice High. Grant amassed 157.95 points and Venice was second at 152.25.
Baseball
Kenji Mochizuki has been hired as coach at Van Nuys High, replacing Mark Pomerantz.
The Cincinnati Reds will conduct a tryout at Pepperdine on June 15 at 9 a.m. Players under 21 must have a written release from a parent or guardian.
