City Adding JV Soccer
The City Section has approved the addition of junior varsity programs in boys’ and girls’ soccer for next season.
“There’s a lot of kids who want to play but not enough space for everyone on varsity,” said Sylmar Coach Manuel Vega, whose 23-member team won the Valley Pac-8 Conference championship and advanced to the section semifinals last season.
“[Junior varsity soccer] allows the kids to see what the competition is like and develop their skills. It will make the varsity games more competitive and exciting.” The 80-minute varsity games will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be followed immediately by 50-minute junior varsity games.
