‘MISSION’ LEADER
As vice president of Desilu Studios, vice president of Paramount Television and executive in charge of production of the “Mission: Impossible” series, I was responsible for the development of the concept, the sale and production of the pilot, and the production of the first two years of the series.
I applaud the spectacular film that Paramount and Tom Cruise have made. It makes me happy to see that an idea that was presented to me in 1964 on a piece of paper and that I put my faith in and developed has evolved into such importance.
However, what is missing with all the mention of the new film is the name of the man who handed me that piece of paper, who created “Mission: Impossible,” who wrote and produced the pilot film and executive produced the series, who set its creative future: writer/producer/director Bruce Geller.
When the series exploded onto the television screens of the world, the whole concept of “action-adventure” series changed. That was all due to Bruce’s great story sense, great taste in the look and sound of television and his intelligence to surround himself with very, very talented people.
