County Libraries
* Re “Cities Try to Take Over County-Run Libraries,” May 20:
The county has a great library system. Allowing cities to secede with their collections would gut the wonderful library system that the county has created. These special collections are simply housed at local libraries but developed for the entire county. This would be devastating for county residents now allowed unparalleled access to these resources.
If cities want out of the county library system and can provide their residents with equal or better service then, by all means, they should leave. But, they should follow the processes and procedures that have been used in the past by Inglewood, Torrance, Palmdale, etc. There is a way to leave the county system without destroying it.
