GEORGIA : Guatemala Berries Tied to Intestinal Ills
Contaminated raspberries from Guatemala appear to have caused intestinal illnesses in about 850 people in the United States and Canada this spring, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta said. The berries were contaminated with cyclospora, a microscopic parasite that infects the small intestine and usually causes diarrhea. A CDC spokesman said evidence was preliminary and the investigation is continuing.
