Planners to Consider Requests for Zoning
A zoning request that would allow the operation of a collection center for recyclable building materials will be among the San Fernando Valley items under consideration by the Los Angeles City Planning Commission, which will meet Thursday in Sherman Oaks.
The commission’s agenda includes:
* A request by the owner of a vacant piece of property at 14280 Paxton St. in Pacoima for a zone change that would permit operation of a collection and container-storage facility for recyclable materials. If approved, the facility would include compactors, a 1,000-square-foot office and 10 parking spaces.
* A zone change request to allow for a subdivision of 48 single-family home lots from 12 acres of land at 10400 Wilbur Ave. in Northridge. Another 12 acres east of the proposed subdivision would continue as home for seven Little League baseball diamonds.
* A public hearing of an appeal by neighbors asking for completion of a wall by a Mission Hills cemetery.
Public hearings on the proposed recycling facility and the subdivision have already been conducted.
Don Taylor, hearing officer on both proposals, said the city is recommending disapproval of anything except single-family residency zoning for the Pacoima lot.
He said his office is recommending approval of the subdivision request.
Planning officials said the public hearing portion of the Planning Commission meeting will allow neighbors of Eden Memorial Park cemetery, located at Sepulveda Boulevard and Rinaldi Street, to express their concerns regarding the need for the completion of a buffer wall between the cemetery and nearby residences.
The commission meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Sherman Oaks Woman’s Club, 4808 Kester Ave.
