Baby’s Sad Tale Only Part of Story
The July 30 story about 10-month-old Victor Gonzalez, who lived his entire life at UCI Medical Center suffering from serious birth defects, was very sad.
Another sadness is that Victor’s mother, Laura, now 16 and pregnant again, was pregnant with Victor when she was only 14 1/2. Your story referred to Victor’s father as a “phantom.” Laura needs to learn responsibility for her actions.
Who paid for Victor’s 10 months of loving care?
Does Laura expect similar (free) care for herself and her second child?

* Your reporter wrote the article about Victor with such compassion that I cried. The article made me love the nurses involved. I work with children every day of my life, so I understood their feelings. But such a beautifully written article stressed only the emotions of the case, which make us all forget some important fundamentals for which we, as a society, become responsible.
Am I the only one who is appalled that Victor’s 16-year-old mother is again pregnant? While we’re being so compassionate with these children who are having children, who is teaching them that this isn’t a wise or responsible way to live?
