Harvest Crusade a Partisan Event

As a Christian who is fed up with religious-right posturing, I feel compelled to respond to Roddy Jordan’s Aug. 18 letter, “Elizabeth Dole’s Crusade Speech.”

Jordan writes: “And no, he is not a political lobbyist. . . . I do not think the writer knows much about [Greg] Laurie and his ministry.”

I do not think that Jordan knows much about Laurie’s history.

In 1992, Laurie showed a videotaped speech by then-President George Bush. When asked about this, Laurie stated that it was not a political move; he felt obligated to give the president of the United States the chance to speak. Why doesn’t he feel this “obligation” now? I do not believe that Laurie would dare to invite a Democrat to his Harvest Crusade, which makes me wonder: Is he trying to get political converts or bring people to Jesus Christ?
