‘Date Rape’ Suspect’s Twin Arrested in Separate Attack

The twin brother of a Marina del Rey man charged with using the “date rape” drug Rohypnol to rape at least one woman was charged Friday with four felonies stemming from an alleged separate attack.

Stefan Julian Spitzer, 39, also of Marina del Rey, was arrested Thursday. He was charged with one count each of penetration by a foreign object by drugging, attempted oral copulation while the victim was drugged, rape by drugging and sodomy by drugging, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Mary Hanlon.

His twin brother, George “Gino” Spitzer, was arrested Aug. 7 after authorities seized about 20 videotapes in Marina del Rey apartment which allegedly showed him having sex with 12 unidentified women.

George Spitzer pleaded innocent to three counts of rape by use of drugs, one count of kidnapping for the purpose of rape and one count of robbery.

Along with those counts, one count each of rape by drugging and sodomy by drugging also were filed against George Spitzer involving the April 7, 1993, incident that led to the charges against his brother.

The Spitzers are being held on $2 million bail. Arraignment for the brothers is set for Tuesday at Culver City Municipal Court.

Hanlon said Friday’s charges stem from information investigators learned after media coverage of George Spitzer’s arrest.

George Spitzer’s apartment was raided after a Los Angeles woman complained to sheriff’s deputies that she went on a date with Spitzer on July 9, and discovered the next day he had drugged and raped her.
