BOY ARE WE EMBARRASSED: The report in last week’s Pop Eye that you can hear a “new” Beatles track on the phone machine of Atlanta’s Beatlefan magazine was a hoax. Beatlefan said that an Apple-related source leaked them what was said to be a 1995 re-recording by the surviving Beatles of their 1961 instrumental “Cry for a Shadow,” but it was actually, the magazine discovered, a 1983 rendition of the song by the San Francisco band Translator.
