Government in Action
The Times, whose latest promo suggests that you’ll get the whole story with The Times, left out part of the story.
In Valley Perspective, Aug. 25, an editorial headlined “Childishness on Sewer Fee Debate” illustrated one of the ways in which city government can be fractious, provincial and childish. Since this 44-year resident of Los Angeles is used to that type of governing, I took no interest in the story when it was reported. Therefore, I don’t know which kids walked out of the meeting.
I would suppose that the editorial was meant to shake up the council, possibly embarrass those errant children. Since their chronological ages are over 18 (even though most of them don’t act that way sometimes), it would have been better to list their names. Acting childish, or behaving as a minor might, should not shield these kids with government jobs from exposure.
The Times, to its credit, is exact in its interpretation of government: to work through tough questions and find solutions. (Kids, sometimes, just don’t seem to understand that.)
