There Oughta Be a Law

I found illuminating Christopher Reynolds’ article on the Seller of Travel law (“Travel Law May Be a Boon,” Aug. 4). While I am pleased with the additional billfold from which abused travelers might be recompensed, I wonder what led the state legislature to determine that good travel agents should be the keepers of bad agents.

On a more immediate level, should the Los Angeles Times be providing advertising for so many agencies that do not comply with the law? How long after the law took effect in January should The Times continue accepting ads from firms stating their application for a Travel Seller Registration number is “pending?”
